QNU launched the 2024 Fujian International Student Summer Camp on Maritime Silk Road Culture with an opening ceremony on the morning of August 13. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Huang Jiangkun; Wu Wentong, President of the Fujian Education International Exchange Association; Zhang Chunsheng, Secretary-General of the association; Ji Ru, Fourth-Level Researcher from the Quanzhou Education Bureau; and Huang Decong, Fourth-Level Researcher from the Quanzhou Foreign Affairs Office. Nearly 100 participants from 26 countries joined the event, including international students from seven universities across Fujian, such as Fujian Normal University, Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University, Fujian Medical University, Fujian University of Technology, Minjiang University, Fuzhou University of International Studies and Trade. Representatives from QNU relevant departments were also present.

Addresses were delivered by Vice President Huang Jiangkun, President Wu Wentong, and a participantrepresentative—a Nigerian master student of Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University. The ceremony featured cultural performances by QNU students, including a medley of Nanyin and the renowned Minnan folk song “Strive to Win” as well as a dynamic display combining traditional sports like diabolo and dragon dance.

Over the five-day program, the university has curated a diverse and culturally immersive schedule for participants. Activities include seminars on the history and culture of the Maritime Silk Road, hands-on experiences in traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy, Nanyin, and Quanzhou Hairpin flower, Book -sharing sessions between Chinese and international students, field studies at the “Jinjiang Experience” Exhibition Hall, and visits to local private enterprises, offering international students a vivid insight into Quanzhou’s rich heritage and cultural charm.
